The first day of July kicked off with a bang as i spoke and performed for a group of teenagers of OUR LADIES OF AMERICA MISSION CATHOLIC CHURCH. Ironically the theme of the day was Chasing your Dreams. As many know my first album is title CHASING DREAMS. The kids were amazing as i asked around the room what was there DREAMS. I want to thank everyone that was involved and also i want to thank Maria Narnjo and Homero Velasquez for organizing the event and inviting me. Thankg you and God bless you all. Yesterday was a beautiful day. I attended My Brother Nesta West wedding yesterday. It was definitely a celebration. Nesta looked stunning and his Bride to be was astonishing. He is a prime example of Change and what it meant. From his younger years as an orphan when racism was like breathing, to becoming a street hustler, Pimping, racketeering, robbery, and gambling. To landing in jail where he found the Nation Of Islam where he established his religion with God who changed his life. It's so much to be said about Malcom X... To some good some bad. I get very emotional thinking about when me and my brother played or fought (which we still do lol) but i cant believe i am twenty five, married with a child on the way!!! Ok so I had a wild day yesterday. I had the choice to either see Wiz Khalifa or up and coming rapper from Compton, California Kendrick Lamar. I have been following Wiz Khalifa for a year now and was excited to know he was going to be at Emory and I was going to be able to see him. But I did not know he would be in Atlanta the same day Kendrick Lamar would be here and I had already purchased tickets. So I went to see Kendrick. I have been following Kendrick Lamar for two years now and let me tell you he did not disappoint. He came out wit his Fiery Flow and witty word play. The energy in the building was amazing for an up and coming artist. Everyone knew the words. He went through songs like The Heart Pt.2, to Ignorance is Bliss, She Needs Me, Cut You Off and one of my favorites MICHAEL JORDAN. Now for older and young listeners Kendrick does have a potty mouth but he is very socially aware speaks on topics such as Poverty, Gang Violence, Drugs, and being a Vanity Slave. As i watched him control the crowd it just inspired me to keep working on my craft and to better my live performance. I pray one day that I am on someone's stage and the next day somebody is blogging about me. To all those who have dreams and are chasing them including myself; DO NOT NEVER GIVE UP!!!! Man what a great day I had yesterday. I hung out with some of the greatest people on Earth. I thank God I was able to lend a hand volunteering at the No H8 Campaign that went on this Sunday at the W Hotel in Atlanta. It was amazing!!! Atlanta showed up and showed out. I helped out My Brother and Mentor, My partner in crime Carlton Mackey. I was taking pictures, I also was the Camera man at the event. For those that don't know what the No H8 program is then i will start of with introducing you to Josh Noblitt. Josh Noblitt i can say is a friend of mine that I met through Carlton Mackey. Josh Noblitt and Trent Williams was involved in a Hate crime at piedmont park in Atlanta. As a minister of social justice, Josh is committed to to working to bring about healing as well as restoring justice across the social landscape. Josh approached Carlton Mackey, and Nikki Noto of V-Day Atlanta about joining him in his efforts Adam Bouska and the NOH8 Campaign to Atlanta. I feel blessed to be know these individuals and to have been apart of yesterdays event on the day before Martin Luther King Jr Day. Man look this world would be so cool if people stopped hating on each other. Just think about it and do your best not to HATE and show much LOVE I mean that. We need each other that's why in my music i don't put that crap in there. We need each other. I need ya'll. Enjoy the pictures and the footage from the event. Enjoy!!!

Ok where do I start!!!!!! As you all can see I was blessed with the opportunity to become a featured artist on InnerTube tv a new YouTUBE news magazine!!! I have also been interviewed and I am so excited for you guys to read the interview in it's entirety.

It was time for us at Vision Music to film a video for the "I HOPE YOU LOVE ME" Album.

Carlton started to create these ideas that were amazing!!! I am always just like, 'Man lets roll!!!' This Video is so awesome in my opinion because it's just about someone who is making things happen and along the way GOOD LUCK finds him!!! OHHHHHH!!!!!!! and don't forget the LOVE!! It may be LOVE as in a relationship (Finding The One) or LOVE with someone being there for you.

This morning I woke up and checked my email, and to my surprise I had an Email from a Ms. Jaclyn Kress of Inner Tube Tv!!!! What is Inner Tube TV, you may ask. Well, according to their site, "Imagine a viral innovative on-line Video News Magazine show in the genre of Access Hollywood or Entertainment Tonight with an edgy feel like TMZ and The Soup.
Innertubetv will be there to catch the rising stars of You Tube & Social Media!"

She informed that she had been to my site and loved what I was doing with my music and everything about me. And also that she wanted to interview me for the sites FEATURED ARTIST section. On Friday the 19th of November, I went to Seqouyah Middle School here in Atlanta to visit my Aunt and to talk to her about some things. When I got to the school I was told that she would be in the cafeteria. A couple days before, my Aunt had been passing out flyers of my new album I HOPE YOU LOVE ME. When I walked into the Cafeteria the kids at this one table kept staring at me and whispering to each other. Then one kid screamed "IT'S HIM!!!! IT'S HIM!!!!!". They were screaming and yelling and saying they had heard my music. My aunt ran in and pulled me out because they where so loud. In her class room the kids returned and I spoke to them about life and music and how I am here for them if they needed me. One of the students name Kobe Ross told the other students he can out rap me a day earlier. So my Aunt went next door and got him. We both went at it right there in the class. Props to Kobe for overcoming his fears. Afterward, the kids ran up to me and asked for an autograph on the flyers they had received earlier!. It brought so much joy to me to see how they were smiling and into everything I was saying. I felt like I had purpose. I thank God for that experience and hope that I can continue to have experiences where I can inspire youth. Much Love to Seqouyah Middle School and my Aunt Piper Cunningham!!!!!

The Film was accepted into the SHOW ME SOCIAL JUSTICE FESTIVAL , located in Warrensburg, Missouri. Carlton Mackey who wasn't able to attend the festival presented the Opportunity to represent the film for him and Dane Danerson. Of Course I accepted and was highly excited. Alongside with me was Christopher Rhodes Jr. When we arrived to Warrensburg we were greeted by Bruce Greer who worked with the festival. It was hospitality to the fullest!!! Everyone was so nice. That Friday night we got ready to attend the Red Carpet Event. We met great people one being Dee Wallace. She is known for playing Mary the mother in the film E.T. It was a pleasure meeting her along side with Amy Mack, Todd Drezner , Matt Leonard, Ky Dickens http://www.fishoutofwaterfilm.com/. We met great people on the trip and I am blessed to have been apart of something great. I pray that I have more opportunities to be involved in projects that advocates change and provokes the mind to open up and think and not be closed minded. Man it's been a minute but for good reason. On the 14th of July I attended another screening of the film 17 Degrees Ain't Nothing.

Where do i began? I will say that this was one of the most eye opening events I have ever been to. Some say when it rains it pours!! Well the people poured in. Face after Face. Person after Person. The Center of Ethics was packed to the Max!!!! I mean it got HOT in the building. It reminded me of a movie premiering for the first time at Plaza Theater.

Carlton Mackey and Dane Jefferson were amazing!!! I was shocked and humbled by the turnout and the whole experience. Carlton called everyone who was involved in the film to come up and he introduced everyone and we spoke. When Tanya Anderson pressed play, everyone was glued to the screen!!! After the film people was inspired, motivated, and moved to do more and fight this cause. It brought tears to a lot of people eyes. The Q&A afterward was amazing, people were very intrigued by the film and asked some great questions. I am very proud and Honored to be apart of something so meaningful. I pray we can take care of this Epidemic of Homelessness some day. One Love to Pops, Jesse, Gino, Red and New York. You guys are in our Prayers!!!!

17 DEGREES AIN'T NOTHING!

It's been a while right? But with good reason!! Well Carlton Mackey as you all know has been working on some big things alongside Extraordinary Artist Dane Jefferson. Dane created this dope poster for the film by the way! Carlton and Dane both worked on a documentary about homelessness and asked me to do a song for the soundtrack. With out seeing the film (only having a conversation with Carlton) I created the title track for the Film "17 Degrees Ain't Nothing". (CLICK HERE TO LISTEN) With the help and Production of Christopher Rhodes Jr, I was able to create this song. I am so excited and Grateful to be blessed to participate in such a great cause!!!

Soooooooooo the film was premiered on May 27th, 2010 at the Plaza Theater. It was the WonderRoot's Generally Local, Most independent Film makers night. I was so excited!!!! The night was warm with just a tad of Breeze. My dad was there, my girl was there, Christopher Rhodes Jr., Dane Jefferson, we were just missing Carlton who along with his wife were off on business. We held it down for them though!!!!!!!! LOL. The night was great; the people was great and the other films were awesome!!!! Some funny,some creative, and some was artistic.

But when our Film came on the whole mood changed. The theater got very quite. Real life hit us in the face. And I had goosebumps and chills when I heard my voice. You could feel the others people energy in the room like what everyone was thinking in the room. It added substance to the list of films being showed. I heard my words from my song and was sweating bullets. It was beautiful to see the individuals from the video speak upon what they were going through. It put life in perspective!!!! I am proud of Carlton Mackey and Dane Jefferson for doing something that others in the world fail to do.......... CARING!!!! I am so grateful to be involved in such a project. Thank you guys!!!! Really I am Speechless.......... But here goes!!!! Stay tuned!!!!

Well...how do I start this?

I had a conversation with my Mentor Carlton Mackey. He told me, "In life we are all searching for the same things. Sometimes it seems as if we are all on the same path and are all stuck on the freeway in traffic. But there comes a time when you should take that conscience effort to get off the nearest exit and take an alternate route. Sometimes you have to take the SIDE STREETS!!!!!"

That conversation changed my life forever. I started seeing Hip Hop not as just a bunch of rappers. I began to see music so differently. I saw myself as being so different.

So I have been inspired to do this different type of music that I probably would have not done if I never had this conversation. I would love to present you with this new music, with this new experience, with this new sound, with this new me!!!!!!

Man I am so honored to say that I went to my second concert of all time. It was Kid Cudi!!! He performed at Emory University and I had all access thanks to my best friends Carlton and Kari Mackey, and also John Roberson. I enjoyed every bit of it. It was special because Kid Cudi is one of my favorite Artists. I have been following his career since I first saw him in the December 07 Complex magazine. He is an artist that inspires me so that made it that much more special. All I could do was just see me as him up on the stage. Before he came out people were yelling CUDI!!! CUDI!!! CUDI!!. It was amazing!! I just thought, "What if that was me and people were yelling my name up there JOSHUA!!!! JOSHUA!!! JOSHUA!!!!"

I am not good with remembering other artist lyrics but I knew all of his. It was cool because Carlton was right there screaming his lyrics with me. People wonder what is the big deal about Hip Hop and it doesn't make any sense. Kid Cudi to me is more than Hip Hop...he is MUSIC!!!! For someone to make a song and have the whole world singing it and can pull emotion out of you is amazing. I will always remember that night. " A Night To Remember"

A Photo Shoot with LONI SCHICK

Well where do I start...
We had a FRESH start Friday, March 5th. We started the day out going to the Barber Shop. I feel like it's nothing FRESHER than getting a haircut. When we arrived at the Barber Shop I was wondering how was this going to pan out. You know how the barber shop can be!
It was all love. The guys at the shop just kept working. They acted like Loni wasn't even there. The conversation was very light but I believe it was out of respect for Loni.
After that, we headed down the road to go to our next location. While at the light, we noticed a laundry mat and swooped in. Loni's vision consisted of the Laundry mat because to her that is the Definition Of FRESH. FRESH LAUNDRY!!!!! I feel the same way. It's nothing like washing dirty clothes and then drying them and having something FRESH to wear. Step your fabric softener game up!!!! LOL!!!
Across the street was a Kroger. The idea for the next phase of the shoot was "fresh produce". This wasn't the location we were going for, but God is Good and this ended up being one greatest parts of the shoot. While in the grocery store Loni and I basically took over the produce area. Without a care in the world, we continued to shoot while the people continued to shop -glancing every once in a while. It was amazing we even got shots of me and the employee that was working on fruit. Shout out to buddy on bananas that day.
After leaving there with a tasty snack we headed back on down the road to our next location. But in life things don't go the way you plan them all the time. While driving Carlton saw an old school car. He made a U-turn and parked the car. We got out and start shooting in front of an old Falcon. What's more FRESH than an old school car...and to make it better I had on a leather jacket. You know I was feeling real James Deanish. LOL!!
While rolling thru East Atlanta my home I couldn't help but think that this was what dreams are made of. This is what it is all about. The Beginnings!!!! Sorry for drifting off.
After cruising thru East Atlanta we ended up on the west side of Atlanta to the next location -the cleaners. This was an interesting shoot because while in the cleaners Loni was shooting and they were getting antsy asking, "what is she doing? what is she doing?" Carlton just calmly told them that I was 'famous' and Loni was doing a photo shoot for me. We gave them cards and they were flipping out treating us like Jay-Z. It got to the point where one of the employees offered to take the clothes to the car!! Where they do that at? LOL!!! We left the cleaners and I just kept thinking that this is the best thing to happen to me. I felt alive, so vibrant, so blessed!!! We ended the shoot off of Boulevard very close to 4th Ward!! It was this amazing building with these amazing tags, maybe the most slickest and cleanest tags in Atlanta. That shoot ended up with me posted up on the tags showing off a brand new pair of Retro 6 Jordans!!! To me that's FRESH!!!! A FRESH pair of shoes to make your outfit complete. I love the smell of new shoes FRESH out the box!!! I truly believe we put on that day. I leave you with this because everyone is different. Anything that you feel is unique or different to you. That is FRESH!!!! You being yourself is FRESH!!!! Fall in love with the evolution of your individuality. That's FRESH!!!!

BEST I EVER HAD!!!

This weekend for me was the best I ever had!!!! International Photographer Loni Schick flew to Atlanta to Define the word FRESH. The shoot titled Definition Of Fresh started Noon Friday the 5th of March. It was a beautiful shoot and very spontaneous. Also my Partner In Crime Carlton Mackey was there and every time we get together things just magically happen.
That Friday ended with Loni, myself, Kari, and Carlton Mackey at MJQ a Underground Hip Hop spot in Atlanta. Saturday was the I'M SKY HIGH SHOOT. We hung out in Little Five Points and Atlantic Station. Sunday we went to the City Fair were Loni Shot Carlton and Kari Mackey. That was my first time going to the City Fair, I had a blast. Then we had to say so long to our friend Loni as she headed back to Toronto!!!! Overall this was the Best Weekend I Ever Had!!!!! Thanks to the Mackey's and Ms. Loni Shick. I won't never forget this. I'M SO ROOTED

December 7th was my first time performing since I dropped my debut EP "CHASING DREAMS"... and WOW what a night.

The night started started out great!!!! I met my Great Friend Carlton Mackey in the parking lot to discuss the show and he showed me that his photos have recently been featured in a prestigious magazine by the name of ATLANTA SOCIAL SEASON. Congratulations to Kari and Carlton Mackey and the whole My True Vision family.
So after being so hyped from that, we entered Wonderroot Community Arts Center. I will cherish this day and performance. It has real significance to it. The photos that Carlton took are phenomenal.

I started with nothing now I am performing with an album out. God is so Good. I feel like my life has meaning and I thank God for giving me some type of purpose. I haven't fully grasped it all, but I know that music nurtures me and I wouldn't want to be doing anything else. Enjoy the photos! It was a great experience and I appreciate all of the support. Shout out to the Wonderroot family.

The wait is over. Today is the Day I drop the Chasing Dreams EP.

I started this process with just trying to get in touch with Carlton Mackey, take a few pictures, and hook up my myspace page. That's it. My mind was very limited at the time. I had one song at the time, Pavement Dreams. I didn't even know this world of bloggers even existed.
In four months, though my life has really changed for the best. It has all happened really fast, and I don't see it slowing down anytime soon.

I went from one song, to making a video, to opening up for a True and Real Hip Hop group(Shout out to Collective Efforts), to blogging, to meeting special people like you all -people who have not only inspired me to chase my dreams but helped me believe in my self.

My Confidence was not and my music was not on this level four months ago. Thank you so much for believing, listening, and following me as WE Chase our Dreams TOGETHER.

Today I'm not just dropping any old album. This is my life. These are my feelings -my thoughts. I cried making this album; I prayed writing these lyrics. I feel like through the process of making this album, I found myself...who I really am. I believe it will reflect, and you will hear it in my music.

I'm So Grateful. I like to thank all of my blog followers and ones who came to my blog and made comments. To Carlton Mackey who has believed in me since day one and took time out to do every thing he has done. As I approach the end of the recording of the Chasing Dreams EP, I came across this great beat produced by Dot Rotten out of the UK. When I first started listening to this beat it made me feel like I was at a extreme pinnacle point in my life. It was no looking back everything you have dreamed is right on the other side and you can let others and your self stop you or you can just keep pushing because it's there waiting for you. I am so excited, and so scared at the same time. I know things won't be the same. To be honest things haven't been the same for a while now. As always I sent this song to my partner in crime Carlton Mackey of VISION PHILMS and he flipped out after one listen. He began to conceptualize a video for this song and completed it today. I love it.

It feels great to get a chance to speak on My title track "CHASING DREAMS" for the CHASING DREAMS EP that I am cooking up. It will be coming out real soon!!!

For those who were tuned into WMRE with host DJ BLK Orpheus, the album was slated to come out this month. It's, unfortunately, been pushed back to a later date. I will keep every one informed when it is coming out. I apologize for that.

I am really excited to share this track though. First I put my heart into this track. I do all of them, but this one is special because I produced the track, wrote the lyrics, mixed and mastered, and arranged everything. As I said in the last post, I had a great time hanging out at WMRE earlier this month. Omotola aka DJ BLK Orpheus was a great host and I appreciate the opportunity to get some air play.

Live on Your Radio...

On September 28th I left work that morning feeling so good. Why? Because I was alive and second I knew I had an Radio interview that day. When I got home I couldn't even sleep. I stayed up got ready and headed to Emory University where the Interview would be held. I met up with my Good friend Carlton Mackey and we sat down and talked about music, life, and what was about to take place. When it was time we headed to the Duck which was the location of the Internet Radio station at Emory University. And who did we see when we got there. Tola the Radio Personality, The DJ!!!. When we got up stairs we chilled for a second and therir we was Broadcasting live to the world and also on Emory University television. That experience was so amazing. We rapped Jay z songs Tola asked questions and I answered, and the icing on the cake? Carlton Mackey was there acting a fool!!!!! His energy, plus Tola's Energy, and my excitement and nervousness made this a once in a life time feeling. I hope and pray to be on more shows in the future. That day was SO SURREAL. What an Experience

A couple of weeks back I had a chance to be featured in another Vision Philms Production with an artist by the name of "Eka". He is a young poet, his words are keen, his passion is fiery, he is one of a kind. I made a cameo in the film and had the opportunity to get a glimpse in the mind of Carlton Mackey who is a genius when at work. This time it wasn't all about me, it was another artist he was working with. Up and down Little Five Points in Atlanta,Georgia we were dashing through the streets speaking to people we didn't know just hitting the pavement. When it came to my part in the film I was nervous but not scared...I was having fun. I felt like this is what I am supposed to be doing working and collaborating with other artist, making beautiful things happen. That day was God Given. Everyday is, but that one was special. "Eka" is a great young man. As we drove through the streets of Atlanta on the back of Carlton's truck me and Eka were talking about everything like Music, the Economy, The Hood and also the slums of India. We had much in common but the one topic that stands out is Malcolm X. We spoke on him and he loves Malcolm like I love Malcolm. He asked me what did I get from Malcolm's book and I said his diversity. Malcolm X was diverse, he could be in any hood in america and could talk to his people on their level and then he could get on national television and speak to black and white people and articulate his message to anyone. And I told him that's what I wanna do as an artist. I'm striving to be like my peers Carlton Mackey and Eka everyday. I am striving to be like my heroes Malcolm X, Tupac Shakur, and My FATHER. I have a long way to go but I believe I will get their. I'm praying for more experiences like this in my lifetime. Till next Time.........

On September 11 I saw my best friend Corey Gresham aka "Nicademus" at South Dekalb Mall in Atlanta,Georgia . We spoke or a little bit and he told me that he started making beats again and he wanted me to listen to one. I said cool.
He played a snippet of an unfinished beat, but what I heard was remarkable. I told him as soon as he finished the beat to send it to me. On the 16th of September he sent me the beat. I knew I had a beauty on my hands and knew I had put something great to it. So that Friday, which was the 18th, I spent all day writing and recording the song. I sent it to my good friend Carlton Mackey of Vision Philms, who once he heard it flipped out and called me raving about the song and said he was going to make a video for it.

The song is Titled "THE REBEL" I think I may have written some the best rhymes to this beat for this song. I still have more songs to go, but this song to me and anybody who loves music or great rhymes in Hip Hop should love this song... and maybe think twice about their Top 10 Emcees especially if you break the lines down bar for bar. Getting Connected

You know Pavement Dreams has been our Foundation. In a sense, when we dropped Pavement Dreams it opened so many doors in a small amount of time. Carlton Mackey who is a whiz with the computer was able to get in contact with a CEO of a entertainment network by the name of "A3 Network". Carlton presented him with the Pavement Dreams video and two weeks later they responded and loved the video and told him the would feature our video on their Music site. In a couple of hours we had like 56 views and some comments and we had 360 views in two or three days right now were sitting at 437 views in one week where the you tube Pavement Dreams has been up for one month and it has 538 views with 15 comments. I'm so Grateful for this, many people are seeing our Foundation. I'm so happy, soon the world will see our movement, a movement of ART, a movement of TRUTH, and CREATIVITY. Getting Connected is a vital part of progression in any thing you do.

You know as we created Pavement Dreams I never thought that it would do what it is doing now...You know all the positive feed back and positive reception that came with the song. And it still continues so after a month and some change, I have been looking forward to presenting this new song to the world. It's entitled "Nickel For My Thoughts" this is also another Natural Disaster Production, I pray that Nickel For My Thoughts shows the diversity of me as an Artist. I hope it opens many doors and opportunities for me to continue to get my music to the world so they can enjoy it. This is only the beginning of Great music to come. THIS AINT A GAME THIS IS LIFE.

The Future Is Now

You Know this month has went by so fast, and so much has went on. Me and Carlton Mackey made the video for Pavement Dreams and posted it on you tube with no promotion. And everyone has either really liked it or loved it. I consider myself to be an artist and what I have seen is people enjoy Art. It's not all about Money, Cars, Jewelry, and Women. Most people want to see and hear things that they can relate to. People want to be inspired, motivated, loved, and a part of something. I may not have money or the flyest clothes or even a car but I do have a Life which keeps me Inspired, Motivated, Loved, and I am apart of Life. I feel good. The comments on YouTube have been so great and inspiring it makes me feel that I have a place in this world and what me and Carlton are doing is not in vain. Also In the process this month of creating this blog we created a Myspace page also. Those who are familiar with Myspace can see with in two and a half weeks we are at 290 views and counting about a 100 plays of the song Pavement Dreams 486 Friends and on youtube 373 views with Fifteen amazing comments. We plan on dropping a new song once I make 500 friends on myspace. I am so excited. I am excited for people to hear my music and excited to be apart of something. I guess as I start to progress as a Young man and a Artist that I will find out what that something is. Me and Carlton have this little thing when we get really excited about something, or when we accomplish something, or when an opportunity comes along that is beneficial we say WE MAJOR!!!!!!!. That is how I am feeling every day. How about you?

The day of the show started at 1 o'clock in the morning. I was on the phone with my good friend Keturah as I was telling her that I was mad nervous about the show and how I really didn't want to mess up. I was so worried and full of anxiety, every time I thought of performing in front of 1300 people my heart pounded like an 808 drum. She reminded me of when I was there for her in her time of need and told her just to be easy and do her thing because she was by far the most qualified. When she said that I felt an certain ease through my body. After work I headed home to get ready for the show; washing clothes and getting my rhymes together. When I got to Emory University my body was at ease I met up with Carlton Mackey and hung out and kicked it with one of the guys from Collective Efforts "J MIL". He had like this spacey laid back demeanor like he was a cat straight out of Star Wars. You know the type you just vibe with. We talked about music and movies two of my favorite things. I felt at ease, I was at ease. I met Bambu who was a very cool cat. And then I met Ben Hameen who put me on the show with along Carlton Mackey. We clicked immediately one the coolest cats I ever met. All these cats are down to earth. I stated to recite my rhymes and was forgetting lines right before it was time to go on. When it was time for me to go on Carlton introduced me and I couldn't ask for a better hype man. When I got the mic I was so nervous like what the hell is going on. I performed a song by the name of "I'm So G" At first I was flawless not messing up then my second verse approached and by the end of verse I was messing up so bad. But the performance was good. Second was " Nickel for my thoughts" I did really well on the song I messed up a little but unless you really was paying attention you couldn't tell. But I thought the performance was ok but that's me I beat myself over the head a lot. After the show it was love like my bruh would say we hung around and I thanked everyone for everything. It just felt good being back at Emory, the atmosphere of that school is amazing it's not an HBCU but it has a lot of diversity there different races and cultures and it's in Atlanta what else can you ask for. TODAY WAS A GOOD DAY. Even though I messed up after I finished I didn't want to leave the area I wanted to keep performing. I'm looking forward to more performances. And I'm glad I faced my fears. This last month has been crazy in a good way. I'm Chasing my dreams yall, if you want to follow your heart and chase your dreams do it, it's worth it. Till next time.

Approaching Wednesday...

All this week I have been a nervous wreck. Why? because I am opening up for a Hip Hop group by the name of Collective Efforts on Wednesday August 26th at Emory University. Even when I think about it right now I get extreme butterflies. Two days this week I have had to run to the bathroom, not to vomit, but like my man Pac said I had to "Shed so many tears" that's how much my anxiety level has been. All this week I have been practicing my lyrics, doing good then messing up then doing good again. My biggest fear is not forgetting a word or messing up. But standing there stuck in front of 700 to 800 people. To some it's just another Wednesday, it is hump day, for some hoping that September approaches fast. For me though this is Paramount, it's not just another day. It's a day that will define me as an artist. Dud or a Stud. I have supreme confidence in my self so I am praying that the lord be with me and I 'am a Stud instead of a Dud. People dream of performing in front of a crowd of this stature someday and I am doing it. I will still be a nervous wreck until the first song drops and I start rapping. I thank the Lord for this opportunity and and everyone that made this possible. We definitely Major!!!. Till Next Time

The Making of PAVEMENT DREAMS

I saw Carlton Mackey on a Friday at Atlantic Station. I believe it was the 17th of July. It was a week and a half before my 24^th birthday. The whole month was a celebration. I had just seen Mackey like a week prior at the same spot with his wife Kari. On this night I was with my crew: my brother Jeremy, my cousin Victor, and my best friend Nesta. I screamed "We Major" which is our favorite saying whenever we talk or bump heads. I said, “Yo, I’ve been calling you”.

"Your number changed," he quickly responded.

I gave him my new number and they went into the movies.

We ended up getting together that same Saturday in the notorious WEST END. I thought I was meeting him for a photo shoot, but what I was in store for caught me by surprise.

While I was on the train I was worried about being late. Carlton was like Malcolm X when it comes to TIME. As I get older, I see where both of them come from. You can’t just be playing around. You have to seize every moment straight up.

So when I get to the West End I hit Carlton up. “I’m leaving right now. Give me 10 minutes," he said. He called me right back because he heard distress in my voice, I guess. " Yo, you good dawg?"

I said yeah I just have to clear my throat. He said "Aight, well get right. We Major Dawg!!!” That got me ready.

When he got there at the station we dapped it up and drove around the corner. We sat in the car. Carlton said, “Do you have a song for the people?" He started ranting about how I may have changed and jokingly asked me if we needed to rent a club for my new music.

So I pull out my mixtape and I play it nearly track from track… rapping it until finally I got to the last song which was titled "Pavement Dreams". After listening to the whole song Carlton said, “This is it. This the song for the people". He said "this aint just no photo shoot -we shooting a video!”

Immediately my heart started to beat fast. I was crazy nervous and Unprepared…but Ready. We shot footage from abandoned buildings, to the oil and shirt man where he had tons of Michael Jackson shirts. Its funny because my dad and I got into a big argument earlier. He asked me was I going to buy a Michael Jackson shirt. I said I doubt it, and we had a big argument. Now, here I was days later purchasing a Michael Jackson shirt that now I cherish alot because of what he meant to me and how he affected the world musically.

So we shot more footage, the West End is Grimey; it’s Gutter; it’s Hood. It’s also everyday people working…like the fruit man who was on the selling fruit reading a book about being a great salesmen. He also had some good fruit, either that or I was just hungry.

We saw the man with the dummy who was professing to the world that God was coming back and that Ronald Regan was the anti-Christ and we need to get right with God, he had an interesting story. We shot footage in the car while Carlton was driving and filming (don’t try this at home) and I was rapping.

Just the Passion that was in that day from both of us and especially Carlton was just Magnetic. Fa Real!! The rawness of it all was amazing. We’d just pop up at certain spots and film and take photos. It wasn’t HOLLYWOOD. It had no video treatment. It was all in his head. It was just “walk Josh, turn josh, Rap josh, comeback josh”. It was special especially when we got on the Marta train we filmed footage. We took pictures all the way to the airport and if we had the money like that, we probably would have got on the plane and went somewhere else and filmed.

I looked at that day as days to come as an artist -filming music videos and taking pictures (which took us only two to three hours). It was like a defining moment in my self.

In process of making the video or editing it Carlton was listening to my mix-tape and to Pavement Dreams in particular. He called me back and spoke to me about both the song and what I was thinking about at that time. I was very up and down. Some lines were deep and profound and some were vulgar and derogatory. It had no consistency.

During that conversation, Carlton challenged me to dig deep and do the song over. With access to the world on my computer and my mind spinning with thoughts, I dug deep and re did Pavement Dreams. I came at it as me…as Joshua. I thought about my self and the graveyard shift that I work chasing my dreams –that’s Pavement Dreams. I thought about my friend KK who wants to be doctor –goes to school, works, has two kids, but is not giving up on her dream. That’s the Epitome of Pavement Dreams. Carlton Mackey who is constantly pushing his Dream, his brand to a world wide fore front. Taking photos in Italy to Africa to New Orleans to Cali to Jesup, Georgia all across the globe –that’s Pavement Dreams. Also to my father who worked very hard to see his two sons just make it in life and not go to jail for selling drugs or robbing or becoming a murderer, which is very common in my hood. That’s Pavement Dreams.

It's amazing how one conversation or one event can change your life forever. Everyone has some type of Pavement Dream. I challenge everyone or anyone who reads this to dig deep, sit think and find your Dream or whatever it may be that you may want to accomplish and hit the pavement and start doing it. Pavement being a metaphor for your route or whatever you have to do to get there. Keep ya head up and Never Give Up…and keep God First (fa real that’s Important!!)

I am Joshua. I am chasing a dream.

My music is very much a reflection of me. After two years of off and on recording, I found myself stuck as an artist and also stuck as a person. I went through ups and downs the last couple years: from me and my mom were alienated by our family to my mom going to jail and me having to bail her out to having nowhere to stay and sleeping on my best friends floor for two months to me and my mom being homeless.

The content of my music started to change. When I wrote, I was angry. It became less about the music and more about me being selfish. I cursed excessively and used many vulgar and derogatory words. I saw myself falling into that hole as an artist… trying to find a hot beat to get the song played on the radio. My music went from creative to just being simple and plain.

Recently I took a good independent approach and purchased my first computer and keyboard. Now I can record myself. But still, when it wrote my music I was constantly trying to find my niche as an artist. I recorded a mixtape which was an elevator of self I can say. I found myself being a provocateur on one song, a street cat on another, and a misogynistic male on others. I was pleased with the mixtape and displeased at the same time.

My main goal was to let my good friend Carlton Mackey hear my new mixtape because I knew he would hold no bars and elaborate in depth about my music. Carlton did like several songs, but in our conversation he reminded me what I stood for and how much of an “Artist” I was on my previous work -not just a rapper. I sat there and thought after our conversation and how I was really tripping. I thought about how much I wanted to touch people through my music. I thought about how much I wanted to be a leader like a Tupac Shakur or be as lyrically creative as a Nas or AZ or become Innovative as a Andre 3000 of Outkast. Me literaly waking up as a artist and a person began with that conversation. I wanted to be an ARTIST.

I thanked God for everyone in my life that I’m close to and told him my plans. I closed my eyes and said: “LET’S GET IT!!”
